Madison Detherage is a student at the University of Cincinnati. She is working toward a degree in Aerospace Engineering and computer science certification. Let’s go one-on-one with her to learn a little more.

Hi Madison. What can you tell us a little about yourself?

I grew up near Cincinnati, in the same house my whole life up until this year. Though my parents and brother all still live within a 15-minute drive of me.

In high school I bowled and worked backstage on school and community productions, which took up most of my time outside of schoolwork. Outside of school and internships, I work at Kings Island and I’m part of a few clubs, primarily Society of Women Engineers and UC Knits.

Have you always been interested in Engineering/ Testing? What other career options did you consider along the way?

No. It didn’t become much of an interest until early senior year of high school. Funnily enough, I actually dropped out of an engineering course my sophomore year because I didn’t like robotics, but I’ve circled back and I’m enjoying it much more now.

Before engineering though, I mostly considered event coordinating since I’ve got some experience and really enjoyed the controlled chaos of it.

What made you decide to co-op for 6D?

Testing is part of every industry. So, 6D is a great company to gain exposure to the process of approving/improving designs. It’s a necessary service and in my experience so far, is pretty interesting.

What type of projects do you typically get involved with at 6D?

Having only been here a bit over a month, I’ve had a lot of basics to get past first. However, I’m starting to get involved with some vehicle component fatigue and bolt failure tests. There’s a potential project within aerospace that I’m also hoping to get onto.

Have you gotten to travel as a part of this co-op experience? If so, where to?

Not yet, but I am scheduled to go to Alabama in a few weeks!

OK, last question. What do you enjoy doing away from work?

I spend a lot of my free time reading, cross-stitching, and hiking. Due to the season, I also try to hit a few fall/Halloween events on weekends.
