Failure: Often the first indication of a torsional resonance

Did you know that the first indication of a torsional resonance problem in rotating machinery will likely be a failure of a shaft, fretting of a keyway, coupling failure, or gear box failure? Did you know that a Torsional Vibration Analysis (TVA) performed at the design stage is quite inexpensive?

Driveline design should consider dynamic behavior of the assembly (system); this is especially true with reciprocating machinery such as an engine, reciprocating compressor, or positive displacement pump.
Torsional resonance can lead to reduced component life or sudden, unexpected and seemingly unexplained failure.

All of this can be identified with a TVA. This is a lumped parameter analytical model that identifies critical speeds and predicts dynamic response, such as torque, stress, and heat dissipation at various critical components in the driveline.

Those who have experienced a torsional failure know to do a TVA early in the design stage… let us help you learn from their mistakes. The TVA can be later validated by a Torsional Vibration Test (TVT), if required.
